Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged the rank and file of the NDC to uphold the principles and values that were cherished by their founder Jerry John Rawlings following his demiseHe reiterated that the peace, democracy, probity and accountability, respect for human rights, freedom of the press, tolerance and inclusion instituted by the Founder should not be lost on them even as he (Rawlings) is no more.
“In doing this, we honour the man who brought us the gift of a free and democratic society,” the NDC flagbearer said in a statement.
The Presidential candidate of the NDC will today chair an urgent meeting of the Political Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to among others consider the next steps towards joining the family, government and the people of Ghana to honour the memory of our former President.
Former President Rawlings died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra Thursday. He was 73.
Presidents of various African countries have poured in their tributes to mourn the former President.The governments Liberia and Burkina Faso have expressed their condolences to the people of Ghana over the loss.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has declared seven days of national mourning for the late former President.
He also directed that flags should fly at half-mast during the period.
